Endorsements
An endorsement is a supplementary credential that signals the educator has met specific preparation or knowledge requirements for the field of the endorsement. Endorsements may be required as part of a licensure application and/or for employment in certain positions in Massachusetts public schools or commonwealth charter schools.
There are five endorsements currently available:
- Transitional Bilingual Learning
- Sheltered English Immersion Teacher*
- Sheltered English Immersion Administrator*
- Transitional Specialist
- Autism
The pathways, fees and validity period vary for each endorsement. Applications for endorsements can be completed through ELAR. The specific requirements for each endorsement can be pinpointed using the Licensure Requirements Tool.
*The Sheltered English Immersion teacher or administrator license may be required for employment in positions where one or more English learner students are enrolled. The SEI endorsement is also required to obtain an Initial license as a core academic teacher or an administrator.
